How to calculate mt CBM or chargeable weight?

Question:

How to calculate mt CBM or chargeable weight?

Answer:

CBM = Cubic Meter.

CBM is calculated by multiplying length * width * height of packages of goods(master carton).

As an example, if the length, height & width of a CARTON is 50 40 *45(cm) the volume of cargo is 0.5 * 0.4 * 0.45 = 0.09 CBM

So, if a shipment contain 20 cartons with such dimensions, the total CBM is 0.09 * 20 = 1.8CBM.

A great role of thumb that all FF debit f4or sea shipment a MIN as 1 CBM.

So, Proboxx recommends always to try to ship sea shipment with volume of at least min 1 CBM and above so you will not pay “dead freight”.

  • How to calculate your physical or chargeable weight per air shipment:

In this case, we will use again our carton size as appear above 50* 40 * 45(CM) and carton physical weight is 8KG.

For this order we will have 20 cartons in total.

We must consider the difference in formula to calculate between regular air shipments vs express shipments.

If we choose air regular:
Physical weight – 20 cartons * 8KG = 160KG

Chargeable weight – 50 *40 *45 = 90,000.

We need to divide 90,000 / 6000 = 15KG. This is our chargeable weight.

Now, let's take 20 cartons *15KG = 300KG.

300KG will be our chargeable weight even if our cargo physical weight is 160KG.

  • If we choose air express (by DHL / UPS / FEDEX):

Physical weight – 20 cartons * 8KG = 160KG

Chargeable weight – 50 *40 *45 = 90,000.

We need to divide 90,000 / 5000 = 18KG. This is our chargeable weight per carton.

Now, let's take 20 cartons *18KG = 360KG.

360KG will be our chargeable weight even if our cargo physical weight is 160KG.
